Khary Laurent begins the 2007-8 season with a return to the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra as a member of their annual Yuletide Celebration.  Recently he made his debut at Skylight Opera as Escamillo in Peter Brook’s Carmen and sang in Nixon in China with Chicago Opera Theater. He also sang in Yuletide Celebration with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra..  Immediately following this was his debut as Basilic in Il Barber Di Sicilia with Cedar Rapids Opera Theater.                       

Mr. Lament began his career in musical and theatrical groups in and around the Chicago area such as Lyric Opera Children’s Choir, Chicago Children’s Choir, University of Chicago Summer Theater Laboratory, and attended The Chicago Academy for the Arts High School.

Chary Laurent received a Bachelor and Master of Music degree from Chicago College of Performing Arts at Roosevelt University.  He studied with internationally recognized bass Samuel Ramee and baritones David Holloway and Richard Sitwell.  Mr. Laurent has been winner of numerous awards, including the National Association of Teachers of Singers, The Metropolitan Opera National Council, and the Bel Canto Competition.
                                           
After a successful performance of Maced. in Mozart’s Don Giovanni with the Opera Festival Di Roma, Mr. Laurent returned to the US and was engaged by Opera Theater Highland Park, L’Opera Piccola, and sang at the Chicago Opera Theater’s Young Artists Program.

Other recent performances include Figaro in The Marriage of Figaro in Chicago followed by his European debut as Basilic in Il Barber Di Sicilia in Treviso (Italy).  He was a Young Artist singing the role of  Monterone in Rigoletto, and covering the role of Alidorro in Cenerentola at Utah Festival Opera. At Sarasota Opera he was an apprentice artist covering Leporello in Don Giovanni, and Nilakantha in Lakmé. His long-term goal is the creation of his own opera company in the City of Chicago, geared towards young minority composers and musicians.
