Young American tenor, Elias Hendricks III, is already in demand with opera companies across the country. Elias started off a busy season performing with Pittsburgh Opera Theater in the highly anticipated revival of Duke Ellington’s Beggar’s Holiday. Other engagements include the Messenger in Aida and Don Curzio in Le Nozze di Figaro, both with Opera Birmingham. His debut with Dallas Opera as Crab Man in Porgy and Bess garnered rave reviews. Following his Dallas Opera debut he appeared as Jake, Mingo, and Crab Man with Opera Birmingham. Elias was recently engaged with Natchez Opera Festival’s Young Artist Outreach Tour, followed by Mingo and Crab Man in Porgy and Bess at New Jersey State Opera.  He will be featured in a Holiday Pops Concert with Opera Birmingham this December.

Elias has frequently been commissioned to perform new works with up and coming composers. He created the role of Romeo in International Opera Theater's 2008 world premiere of Romeo e Giulietta. With music by Emily Wong and a libretto by Tommaso Sabbatini, the opera premiered at Teatro degli Avvaloranti, in Citta' della Pieve, Italy. He reprised his role as Romeo in Philadelphia for the opening celebration of Envisioning Romeo and Juliet, a month-long juried exhibition and show at The DaVinci Art Alliance.  At the request of composer Adam Guettel, Elias performed alongside the composer for the Van Cliburn series at the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth, TX.

As a concert soloist, Elias has performed the tenor solos in Handel's Messiah, Haydn's Lord Nelson Mass, and Camille Saint-Saëns' Christmas Oratorio. This summer Elias was a finalist in both the Mario Lanza Vocal Competition and the Leontyne Price Vocal Competition. He received his Bachelor of Music degree in Vocal Performance from Southern Methodist University.
