Colombian tenor David Guzman has been highly regarded by critics for his exquisite beauty of tone and impeccable musicianship in opera, oratorio, and zarzuela.  Most recently, David made his debut with Theatre du Chatelet in the role of Rafael from To Cross the Face of the Moon by Jose Martinez Barajas, a role in which he also created in its world premiere at Houston Grand Opera. Not only did he sing this to rave reviews, but also showcased his talents as a classical guitarist. David made his Carnegie Hall debut last February as soloist in Gonzalez  Misa Azteca and his Alice Tully Hall debut this past June singing Mozart’s Vespers with Mid-America.

Last season, Mr. Guzman sang Rodolfo in La Boheme and Hoffmann in Tales of Hoffmann with Opera in the Heights, Don Jose in Carmen with the Rapides Symphony Orchestra in Louisiana, Nemorino in L lisir d more with Divaria Productions, Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly with the Algonquin Playhouse, Pang in Turandot with Coro Lirico in New Jersey and was invited to perform in opera gala concerts with Lake George Opera and Opera in the Heights.  He also traveled to his native Colombia as a guest artist in De regreso a mi tierra: Three Colombian Tenors at the Teatro Municipal de Cali.  David performed as soloist with the Latin American Music Festival Orchestra in Fort Worth, TX, Future engagements include Faust with Opera in the Heights in 2012.

Other credits include Hoffmann in Les Contes de Hoffmann with Vertical Players Repertory in Brooklyn, and Don Jose in Carmen with Natchez Opera Festival.  David sang Dubois Seven Words at St. Marys Church in Nutley, NJ, and was asked to give a solo recital at the Colombian Consulate in New York.  He sang Rodolfo in La Boheme with Jacksonville Lyric Opera in a tour of the Florida Keys. In the New York area, David performed Ferrando in Cosi fan tutte with Riverside Opera Company, and Tom with Garden State Opera Company in the world premiere of The Angel in the Park by Francesco Santelli. In May 2007, David sang as a guest artist with Texas Christian University Opera (TCU) as Don Jose in Peter Brooke   Le tragedie de Carmen, a retelling of Bizet   Carmen.  David participated in the Pergine Spettaacolo Apperto Opera Festival in Pergine Italy, where he sang Lindoro/Narciso in Cose Turche, a combination of Rossini  operas L taliana in Algeri and Il Turco in Italy under the guidance of famous Italian tenor William Matteuzzi.

David began his professional singing career performing zarzuela at Teatro Colon in Bogota, Colombia. He won numerous awards in Colombian folk music festivals and operatic competitions.  He was a two-time finalist at the Bogota Opera al Parque Festival, in 1999 and 2004. David went on to receive his Masters in Music at Texas Christian University, where he performed Ferrando in Cosi fan tutte and Beppe in Donizetti  Rita.  David currently studies Kate Johnson in NYC.
