| Equally at home in opera and musical
theatre, mezzo soprano September Bigelow recently performed on the
Disney Cruise Lines as a featured performer for most of 2008.
Before this she did A Tribute to Stein with Downtown Music Productions
in New York City and performed Maddalena in Rigoletto with New Rochelle
Opera and the Westfield Symphony Orchestra in NJ. Ms.
Bigelow created the role of Rose in Michael Sahl’s new opera
Dinner and Delusions produced by the Center for Contemporary Opera and
New York City Opera’s VOX-n-Friends series.. She appeared with Connecticut Grand Opera as Marcellina in Le nozze di Figaro and was heard as the Mother and Witch with Mobile Opera’s outreach production of Hansel and Gretel. She also took part in th Broadway workshop of Benny Andersson’s new musical Kristina led by Paul Gemignani In 2005, she sang at New York’s Symphony Space, where she premiered Halpern’s Satin Cloak creating the role of Akarah, after which she delighted audiences with her portrayal of the Witch and Mother in Hansel and Gretel with Hat City Music Theatre. Oratorio engagements include her Carnegie Hall debut singing Bach’s Magnificat (D Major) with Mid-America Productions and Vivaldi’s Gloria in Westport, CT. She then returned to Carnegie Hall to sing the alto solo in Musica Sacra’s Bach Magnificat (Eb Major). Ms. Bigelow performed a Song Cycle of Yeats Poems by J. Suskind with Downtown Music Productions in NYC. She performed Lola in Cavalleria Rusticana with the Catskill Symphony Orchestra, Mrs. Splinters in Copland’s the Tender Land at Bard Summerscape Festival, and Bordodin’s Polovitsian Dances with the American Ballet Theater at the Metropolitan Opera. Ms. Bigelow has offered richly textured and diverse performances of Cherubino in Le Nozze di Figaro, Papagena in Die Zauberflöte, Pitti Sing in The Mikado, Kate in the Pirates of Penzance, Aldonza in The Man of La Mancha, and Meg in Brigadoon. She covered the role of Claire, an operatic acrobat, in Mirette, a new musical by Tom Jones and Harvey Schmidt, at the Goodspeed Opera House in CT. Ms. Bigelow performed in Lincoln Center’s production of Sweeney Todd, (a Grammy nominated recording), and was a featured soloist in an Evening of Kurt Weill at Alice Tully Hall. 2/1/09 |
